ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH

BAPTISMS

1213 Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word .” *

We require that you are regular parishioners at least three months before the baptism and that you give yourself at least two months to prepare documents. Baptisms are done every three months (unless the third month falls during Lent) on the fourth Saturday of the month. We are also holding Baptism Preparation classes; they will be on the second Tuesday every three months. Please call or come to the parish office to find out when the next baptism class and baptism Saturday will take place. We can also give you via email or in person the baptism registration form, which you will need to fill out, and a checklist of what documents you will need to bring to the office before the baptism. For your convenience, there is a Registration form and a Guideline for who can be a sponsor on the website tab labeled Forms. In addition, there is a Sponsor Affidavit so that sponsors can see what they will be signing their names to. The affidavit must be filled out in person at the parish office (or theirs, if they live out of Roswell). Please note, all documents must be turned in at least a week before the scheduled baptism.

CONFIRMATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

1285 Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.”*

1322 The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.*

First Holy Communion and Confirmation are done in the springtime each year through the process of our Faith Formation and RCIA classes. Please see the Parish Info: Youth Faith Formation and RCIA tabs.

WEDDINGS

1602 Sacred Scripture begins with the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God and concludes with a vision of “the wedding-feast of the Lamb.” Scripture speaks throughout of marriage and its “mystery,” its institution and the meaning God has given it, its origin and its end, its vari ous realizations throughout the history of salvation, the difficulties arising from sin and its renewal “in the Lord” in the New Covenant of Christ and the Church.*

Six months of preparation is required to be married at Assumption Church. Please call the  office to make an appointment with a priest so that you can start the process.
