ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH

Parish Announcements for the Week of 1/29/23

January 30, 2023
  1. World Youth Day Raffle Tickets are available in the parish office.
  2. Altar & Rosary Society will be delivering the food items to the Poor Clares on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in helping load and deliver is asked to meet in the church foyer at 2:15 p.m. this Sunday, January 29, 2023. We appreciate any assistance you can lend.
  3. As you know, in November we lost our parish janitor Raul Lucero (may he rest in peace). With the parish council, we have made a decision regarding this position. Our current employee Freddy Palomino cleaned the church and offices these past two months, so instead of hiring a new person for this position, after analyzing Freddy’s responsibilities, we decided to adjust his compensation packet and add these duties to his current job description. I announce Freddy as the parish custodian.
  4. Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2023 is January 29 - February 4. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2023 is “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.” Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses, and other activities for students, families, parishioners, and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation.
  5. Next week, we will start the UIM appeal. Your 2022 United in Ministry gift has been paramount in this pastoral outreach. And your continued support in the 2023 UIM appeal is equally critical to the work ahead of us. Indeed, this would not be possible without your support. Please prayerfully consider your gift to support the church’s essential services. Thank you, Floyd Kreitz, for being our past parish UIM coordinator, and I would like to introduce to you our new parish UIM coordinator, Mary Ann Tuten.
  6. Next week will be our pledge weekend. We would like to invite our parishioners for lunch, which will be held in the parish hall next Sunday, February 5th, after the 11 a.m. Mass (about 12:15 p.m.) During lunch, we will present Bishop’s video and provide information on how the diocese allocates the funds from this appeal. It will also be possible to make gift donations through cash, checks, or debit/credit (electronically). We kindly ask those who plan to attend the lunch to call the parish office no later than Thursday, February 2nd, to provide the number of attendees. We need this information to prepare enough chairs and food. Also next weekend, we will have envelopes with UIM coupons in the church pews. Thank you so much for your help.
