ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH

Parish Announcements for the Week of 12/31/2023

January 2, 2024

1. Because the January 1st, the New Year Day - Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, falls on a Monday in 2024, it is not a holy day of obligation.

In 1992, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops eliminated the obligation to attend Mass when the solemnities of Mary, Mother of God (Jan. 1), the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug. 15), and All Saints Day (Nov. 1) fall on a Saturday or a Monday. They continue to be holy days of obligation on the other days of the week.

Although January 1st is not a Holy Day Of Obligation this time, it is still a day off for most of us, so we deeply would like to encourage you to participate in the Mass on Monday, New Year’s Day at 12:10 PM in the main church. Let us begin the New Year with our Holy Mother of God.

2. On Monday, January 1
st, the Parish office will be closed.

3. During the “Eucharistic Revival”, we would like to offer parish families a book “This Is My Body” written by Bishop Robert Barron. It will be the Assumption Parish New Year gift. Families who want to receive a free book please sign up on the list located on the bulletin board.

4. After Mass, All Saints Catholic School PTS will be selling tickets for a fundraiser to raise money to buy a canopy for the new playground equipment.

5. Next Sunday, we celebrate the Epiphany typically called “Three Kings Day”. Each year, using blessed chalk, people mark the doorpost of their home with an inscription of the new year separated by C+M+B, so next weekend we will bless the chalk.

6. I would like to take a moment to say thank you. I am so grateful for all of you how you have served this past year, especially: Assumption Volunteers, Faith Formation and RCIA Catechists, Money Counters, Ushers, Choir Members, Altar Servers, Church Decorators, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communions especially for home-bound, and Office Staff. Whether it’s leading groups; shepherding children; serving coffee; setting up for worship; playing music; serving on a mission trip, or any one of the countless other (usually unseen) tasks that keep our community running, I am grateful. Thank you so much for all you do! Thank you our faithful parishioners for all Christmas gifts, delicious goodies and monetary gifts.

Dear Assumption Family, I wanted to say a big thank you for your donations and effort in helping in our Parish during the past year. I appreciate the care, time and energy you have given. May God bless all and each of you in the New 2024 Year. One more time: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
