ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH

Parish Announcements for the week of 2/12/23

February 13, 2023
  1. Thank you! To those who have completed their UIM pledge. We are humbled by your generosity and support of the Diocese of Las Cruces’ 2023 United in Ministry Appeal. Your sacrificial generosity to the UIM Appeal truly bears witness to our faith in action and the role of the Church as the essential service of hope for those in need. Your continued support of the 2023 United in Ministry Appeal is critical to the work ahead of us. Education and formation of seminarians, ongoing formation of priests and deacons, religious education of the youth, support of retired priests, youth ministry, programs to support marriage preparation and family life -- all depend on your generosity. You can obtain the information needed to make a pledge by contacting the parish office or parish website and Facebook, or you can make a gift online at the Diocese webpage. Thank you again.
  2. In this weekend’s parish bulletin you will find a flyer about the Building Better Marriages Group. I encourage you to read it. The group will meet on Friday.
  3. The All Saints Catholic School Mardi Gras Gala dinner and dance is on Saturday, February 18, from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, in the St. Peter Church Gym. Food will be catered by Peppers, and DJ Louis Najar will provide the music. Tickets are $60 each. You can buy them in advance from the school, or at the door. For more info, call the school or visit their website.
  4. [Sunday’s] NMMI Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM.
  5. I know that you are so tired of just seeing my face every weekend, so I have good news. After six weeks, Fr. Ephraim is coming back to us on Monday. Please pray for safe travels for him and other priests from our diocese.
  6. On February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated large areas of central Turkey and Northwest Syria. The death toll has surpassed 23,000 and continues to climb. Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Church, is already on the ground offering emergency relief services led by local partners with Caritas Turkey, Caritas Syria in Aleppo and Lattakia, and others. They are bringing displaced people to safe spaces and distributing hot meals, clean water, hygiene supplies, and other essentials. They are collecting donations. If you wish to help, Parish Sanctity of Life Ministry members will stay with donation boxes in the back of the Church. If you would like to prepare a check please make a check to Assumption Parish with the memo: Earthquake. We will also collect donations next weekend and then all donations will be sent to Catholic Relief Services. Online donation is also available; for more information, please check the CRS website. Thank you for all your donations.
